HECTOR CÁRDENAS ACEVES

Concepción de mi trabajo:

En mis pinturas empodero a la imaginación al honrar a la fantasía. Mi trabajo expresa la esperanza, la alegría y la transformación. Le doy la bienvenida a la inspiración al ir descubriendo la magia en el pensamiento espontáneo, la gente común y el diario vivir. Una satisfacción inesperada de fuertes deseos aguarda para revelarse en el jardín encantado. Desentraño el significado de mi existencia al equilibrar la a veces inquietante realidad con la alegría que trae la fantasía.

Biografía:

Héctor Cárdenas nació en la Ciudad de México pero vivió gran parte de su infancia y adolescencia en Cuernavaca, Morelos. Comenzó a pintar desde los 3 años y a los 7 representó al estado de Morelos como joven artista en la Convención Nacional del DIF.

Su interés en el arte lo llevó a estudiar dibujo, pintura, grabado, diseño, ilustración, fotografía y arte por computadora en la UAM-X. Más tarde realizó estudios de maestría en la School of Visual Arts, en la ciudad de Nueva York, donde vivió hasta su muerte (2016) en compañía de su adorada hija Valentina, su adorado hijo Julián, su esposa Monique y dos gatitas, Orange y Pepetina.

A través de las pinturas de Héctor Cárdenas nos adentramos en un mundo alimentado por su pasado en una tierra mágica. Ahí, sus emociones toman forma y nos recuerdan que el solo hecho de ser humanos nos reta y nos premia con las fuerzas de la vida: alegría, deseo, esperanza, envidia, impulsos, depresión e incertidumbre.

CV:

Nació en la Ciudad de México en 1968.

Murió en la ciudad de Nueva York en el 2016.

Obtuvo una Licenciatura en Diseño Gráfico en la UAM-X y más tarde una Maestría en Arte en la School of Visual Arts en la ciudad de Nueva York.

Artist's Statement:

In my paintings, I empower imagination by honoring fantasy. My work embodies hope, joy and transformation. I greet inspiration by discovering the magic in spontaneous thought, ordinary people and daily living. Unexpected fulfillment of yearning desires are awaiting to transpire in the enchanted garden. The meaning of my existence is unraveled by balancing a sometimes unsettling reality with the joy of fantasy.

Biography:

Born in Mexico City, Héctor Cárdenas began to paint at the age of 3. He represented his home state of Morelos as a young painter at the age of 7 in the DIF National Convention (a government-funded organization of Social Services for families, the largest of it's kind).

His interest for the arts lead him to study drawing, painting, printmaking, design, illustration, photography and computer art at the UAM-X University in Mexico's capital. He further pursued his artistic career by obtaining a Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He resides in downtown Manhattan with his wife Monique their daughter Valentina and their cats Tigris and Divina.

Through the paintings of Héctor Cárdenas we arrive to a world nurtured by his past in a magic land. There, emotions take shape and they remind us that in being human we are challenged and rewarded by the forces of life: joy, desire, hope, envy, impulse, depression and uncertainty.
